Here’s What Happened When a UP Cop Mom Went Viral!

This picture of Jhansi-based Constable Archana Jayant Singh went viral all over the internet! She was on duty while her daughter (six-month-old) slept on her table at the police station. Despite the fact that she has a newborn, she did not take childcare leave. She opted to go to duty.

The photo which was shared by senior police officers, caught the attention of netizens, who overloaded praise upon Archana. However, there’s more to the story. This prompted some kind people to urge the Uttar Pradesh Police to make her life easier.

It shows in the picture that Archana is very hard-working. She is from Agra and is posted in Jhansi, located at a distance of over 200 kms from her home. Her elder daughter, Kanak is in Class 4th and lives with her grandparents in Kanpur.

Talking to the Indian Express, Uttar Pradesh District General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash Singh, said, “Her husband works for a private company in Gurgaon and her family is in Agra, while her in-laws are in Kanpur. Archana cannot be posted to Kanpur (officially her home district after marriage) as we do not post constables in their home district.”

The family, therefore, has to live away from each other.

She says – “I haven’t met my husband and parents in a long time and now I will celebrate Diwali with them. I will also bring my elder daughter Kanak (10) to Agra. I did face some problems in Jhansi but received a lot of support from my colleagues.”

Since Archana’s photo with her daughter went viral on Twitter, her admirers and well-wishers have been requesting the authorities to transfer her closer to home.

Taking note of this, Archana was called by the the DGP. “When I saw the image and read the story, I spoke to the Inspector General (IG) Jhansi, who has rewarded the constable with Rs 1,000 in cash. I got to know that she is very hard-working. Despite the fact that she has a newborn, she did not take childcare leave. She opted to go to duty. When I spoke to her, she said the only problem she is facing is that she does not have family support,” he said.

On Sunday, 28 October, he tweeted saying, “The quintessential 21st-century woman, an ace at any responsibility she is trusted with!

Archana then got a transfer order to Agra, closer to home! The (little) one brightening Jhansi (police station), has motivated the authorities to explore crèche options at every Police line. This transfer has surely united a family as Archana plans to call her elder daughter to Agra and her husband will also be joining them.

The Uttar Pradesh Police are also planning to install a creche in police stations to unite more families and help other parents like Archana follow their personal and professional duties with ease.
