Haryana honour killing: Man stabbed 15 times, body cut into 6 pieces

Sep 22, 2013 CHANDIGARH: Fifteen stab wounds and bodies hacked into six pieces, that was the way Haryana’s lover couple were butchered by the girl’s father and relatives on September 18 after they decided to tie the knot against the wishes of their families. Dharmender, 22, who had dared to elope with Nidhi, a girl from the same gotra and village, was stabbed 15 times before being beheaded and hacked into six pieces with an axe at Garnauthi village in Rohtak district, police probing the honour killings disclosed. “There were 15 stab wounds on Dharmender’s body,” head of the investigation team, Anil Kumar, told TOI on Saturday. Autopsies of both the bodies were conducted at PGIMS, Rohtak, on Thursday. In-charge of forensic science, PGIMS, S K Dhatterwal, said, “There were seven sharp deep wounds with double-edged weapons near Dharmender’s heart alone.” Police sources said the girl was killed first by her father Narender alias Billu and relatives. Like her boyfriend, she was also stabbed several times and beheaded. “She was cut into six pieces,” said villagers. After the murder, the girl’s body was cremated but police stopped the cremation midway. Dhatterwal said that just the trunk of the girl’s body was brought to the PGI for autopsy. Police have arrested five accused — girl’s father Billu, mother Reeta, brother Sunny, uncle Ravinder and Mahesh, driver of the vehicle used in the crime. They are in police remand while one more accused, Rajesh, is on the run. Villagers said the couple had eloped to Delhi from there Nidhi’s relatives brought them to the village and were tied up at the girl’s house on the outskirts of the village. After killing the couple, Billu reportedly asked Dharmeder’s family to take his body away. “He asked Dharmeder’s family to take the body, but nobody turned up. Then, Billu covered the body with a polythene sheet, tied it on a motorcycle and drove it to the boy’s home,” said eyewitnesses, who did not want to be named. A few villagers said Billu beheaded Dharmender — by grabbing his hair — in front of the house while cops said he was beheaded at the girl’s home. Villagers also said that Billu was drunk when he came out to dump the body at the boy’s house. A few minutes after Dharmender’s body was dumped in front of his house, a villager informed Kalanaur police station. When police reached the spot, the girl was being cremated but they stopped it midway. Girl’s grandparents lonely A group of around 80 people from Garnauthi and neighbouring villages on Monday met Rohtak superintendent of police Rajesh Duggal stating that nobody is coming out to help the girl’s grandmother and grandfather, who are alone at their home, due to fear of police. Nidhi’s parents and brother are behind the bars and nobody is there to look after the elderly people, villagers said.   ——– SOURCE: TIMES OF INDIA
