Chhattisgarh School Textbook Says Empowering Women Leads To Unemployment In India
‘Working women are one of the causes of unemployment in our country.’ – This is what we found in an excerpt from a class X textbook in Chhattisgarh. It’s strange that our Indian text books teach us stuff like that! Bhagat Singh is said to be a terrorist in these books and of course, we are taught so much about women and Indian customs. How I wish these books had something good to offer our children, like, how women are equal to men, and how our society should accept this fact, seriously! Soumya Garg, a 24-year-old teacher from the tribal Jashpur district, has petitioned the Chhattisgarh State Commission for Women against the content which is published by the Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education (CGBSE). And we are really proud of you, lady! “Does it mean that percentage of unemployment is measured on parameters keeping only men in mind? In the age of technology and gender equality, students can’t be taught about such prejudices. Women have equal right over jobs with men,” she told TOI. This is simply not fair. They can’t be blamed for unemployment in our country.
