Woman commits suicide over dowry harassment

HYDERABAD: A 26-year-old housewife committed suicide due to dowry harassment at her house at Kushaiguda on Sunday night. The victim was identified as Mangamma, wife of Prasad, a gardener working at Infosys campus in Pocharam. The couple was married seven years ago and they have two children. Since the past few months, Mangamma was being harassed by her husband and in-laws for additional dowry. Vexed with the daily harassment, Mangamma committed suicide by hanging herself at their house. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s parents, Kushaiguda police have registered a case against Prasad, his mother Udayamma, his brother Praveen and his wife Lavanya under sections 498-A (Subjecting a married woman to cruelty) and 306 (Abetment to commit suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Businessman dies in accident: Hitchhiking proved fatal for a 40-year-old businessman at Saroornagar on Monday. The victim was identified as N Surender from Saroornagar. On Monday morning, Surender left the house after informing his wife that he was going to meet a friend. While Surender was trying to hitchhike near Shiva Ganga theatre, he was offered a lift by one Prakash on his two-wheeler. At Saroornagar tank, the vehicle crossed a pothole and both Prakash and Surender fell on the road. Surender suffered a severe head injury in the accident and Prakash immediately rushed him to a nearby private hospital. “Surender was declared brought dead at the hospital,” Saroornagar police said. Police have registered a case under section 304-A (Causing death by rash or negligent act) of the IPC against Prakash, who also suffered minor injuries. ——— SOURCE: TIMES OF INDIA
