Watchman held for rape & murder of 3-yr-old
A 27-year-old watchman was arrested Thursday for allegedly abducting, raping and murdering a three-year-old girl from Thane. The girl had been missing for two days and the crime came to light when the body was found in a pond Thursday. Kasar Wadavli police said the victim, of old Waghbil village, was playing with a dog on Tuesday morning and went to Labourers’ Colony on the outskirts of the village, which was when the suspect saw her. The suspect works a watchman at a construction site near the Labourers’ Colony, police said. He allegedly took her to an empty room in the Colony and forced himself on her, after which he killed her and dumped the body in a pond. “We sent the body for post-mortem examination, which confirmed injuries to the head as well as to the private parts. We found some witnesses who had seen the victim with the suspect. We picked him up for questioning and subsequently arrested him for kidnapping, rape and murder under the Indian Penal Code as well as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V) Balasaheb Patil.
