Girl kept in captivity for 2.5 years, raped
Oct 4, 2013 HYDERABAD: Two shocking incidents of rape were reported at Bowenpally police station on Wednesday. In the first incident, a 30-year-old businessman kidnapped a class IX student from Bowenpally and allegedly raped her for two-and-half years in captivity. In the second incident, a 22-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her uncle and, due to the assault, she became pregnant. In March 2011, Mool Chand Bhati, 30, a photo album designer from Mallikarjun Nagar in Bowenpally, had kidnapped a 15-year-old girl from his neighborhood by luring her with an offer to take her photographs. The girl was then class IX student at a local school. After luring the girl, Bhati took her on a bike to an undisclosed location in the city and sexually assaulted her. Subsequently, he abandoned his wife and child in the city and took the girl along with him to Uttarakhand. From there, Bhati shifted the girl to several states, including Haryana, Delhi, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, his native place Rajasthan, and finally settled in Punjab. During their stay at Mohali in Punjab, the victim managed to escape from his house in September, 2013, and contacted her parents in Hyderabad. As per their guidance, she reached the city and narrated them the sordid story. In the last week of September, the victim’s parents approached the Bowenpally police and lodged a complaint against Bhati. Police tried to trace his wife and child in the city, but during the probe, they discovered that the man’s wife married someone else and went away. A special team of police went to Mohali, arrested Bhati and brought him to the city on Wednesday. He was produced in court, which remanded him in judicial custody on Thursday. In the second case, a 22-year-old woman from Bowenpally was raped by her uncle, Rammoorthy, a farmer from Srikakulam, three months ago. Due to the assault, she became pregnant. When the victim told her aunt Jayachitra about the incident, she dissuaded her from informing her parents about the shame she suffered. Finally, earlier this week, Rammoorthy and Jayachitra brought the victim to her parents who live at a colony in Bowenpally and forced her to claim that she became pregnant through her boyfriend. The victim’s parents then requested Rammoorthy to take her back to Srikakulam and get the pregnancy terminated. En route Srikakulam, the victim called up her parents and informed them what actually happened. As she threatened to kill herself, the victim’s parents asked her to come back to Hyderabad. On Wednesday, the victim and her parents lodged a complaint with Bowenpally police against Rammoorthy and his wife. Police registered a case under section 376 (Rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Rammorthy and under section 212 (Harboring an offender) of the IPC against his wife Jayachitra. Both the accused have been taken into custody on Thursday. ——– SOURCE: TIMES OF INDIA
