Acid attack on woman for refusing sexual favour
Nov 28, 2013,
INDORE: A young married woman sustained burns in an alleged acid attack by the electrician son of her landlady in Sindhi Colony area of Juni Indore here on Wednesday morning. The attack comes four months, after the Supreme Court directed states and union territories to frame rules to regulate sale of acids and other corrosive substances within three months and make acid attack a non-bailable offence. Saloni Wadhwani, 25, sustained 20% burns on the right hand and back, and is presently admitted in the Burn Unit of MY Hospital. She alleged that 40-year-old Kamal, the son of her landlady Vindur, threw acid on her at around 9 am, as she was refusing to oblige him sexually. Saloni, who has been living with street side vegetable seller husband Raju Wadwani at the rented accommodation since three years, alleged that taking advantage of her husband’s absence (who has gone with the landlady on pilgrimage) Kamal threw a tumbler full of acid on her while she was washing clothes inside the house. She alleged that Kamal, whose wife doesn’t live with him, has been repeatedly pressurizing her for sexual favours, owing to which she along with husband was planning to leave the house and shift to their newly- constructed own house in Dwarikapuri. “He has been forcing me to have sexual relations with him and also not to shift out of his house. I informed this to my husband, after which there was a spat between my husband and Kamal recently. Since we decided to shift to our new house recently, it’s out of frustration Kamal threw acid on me in the morning,” Saloni alleged. According to the investigating officer in the case and the sub inspector at Juni Indore police station, RN Mishra, “a case has been registered against Kamal under Section 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of IPC. Efforts are being made to nab Kamal, who is on the run.” Mishra, however, said the woman has only stated before the police that Kamal threw acid on her out of frustration of failing to stop the couple from shifting to their own house. The woman didn’t mention to the police that Kamal was seeking sexual favours from her. It’s still not clear as to why Saloni, who alleged before media persons at MY Hospital on Wednesday afternoon, about Kamal seeking sexual favours from her, remained silent about it before the Indore police. ————— SOURCE: Times of India
