Rape accused JNU scholar tries to chop off his private part
JNU scholar, who was accused of raping and impregnating his minor sister-in-law, apparently tried to chop off his private part in lock up of Vasant Vihar Police Station on Sunday. He carried out the act with a piece of a tile. He was admitted to Sufdarjung hospital. He, later, denied to have hurt himself and claimed that he fell in the bathroom leading to the injury. The 13-year-old girl got pregnant after allegedly being raped repeatedly by her brother-in-law, who is a PhD scholar in Jawahar Lal Nehru University and lives in South Delhi’s Vasant Vihar area, police said. The accused has been arrested after a case was registered against him under POCSO Act and section 376 of IPC. The victim was sent to Delhi to stay with the accused so that she can study. She lived with him in a rented accommodation in Munirka Village area and studied in class 8, they said. According to the victim’s statement, the accused had been raping her since the last couple of months. His wife, who is the elder sister of the victim, lives in Uttar Pradesh with her in-laws. The incident came to light when the victim was taken to a hospital after she complained of stomach ache. When the doctor’s found that the girl was two months pregnant, they informed the police.
