The Blinded Rage

The Blinded Rage

She woke up with a smile on her face that day! The night before she had found out that she had been acknowledged into a prestigious college in America for her masters with a full scholarship! She could hardly believe her luck, it almost felt as though she was in someone else’s life and any moment she’d wake up and it would all be over.

She got out of bed, showered and got ready all in her happy haze. Even her parents couldn’t stop smiling; the look of pride she saw in their eyes when she told them the news was something she would never forget. She rushed through breakfast and ran out the door while her mother’s voice complaining about her not eating faintly echoed through the door but she was far too excited to eat. She made her way down the lane from her house, she had to go to college to wrap up her final review, and graduation was just a few weeks away.  Her life was rushing by in fast forward but she loved every bit of that excitement. Suddenly from the corner of her eye she saw two figures approaching on a bike. Casually, she tilted her head and was immediately filled with annoyance. On the bike was a guy from her college with his friend. This guy kept following her everywhere she went. He had proposed to her on several occasions. Initially, she had firmly told him that she wasn’t interested but when he didn’t get the message she had reprimanded him. But all her efforts seemed to be in vain. Warily she saw the bike come closer, suddenly she something which made her blood run cold. There was something vicious about his expression and then she saw the bottle in his hand.

With alarming clarity, she realized what it was and her heart sank. Before she even had a chance to react, he threw a bottle of scorching acid on her face. Screaming she fell to ground, the bike sped away in the dust. She succumbed to her injuries on a hospital bed the next day. A life destroyed because one person couldn’t accept a rejection. A family destroyed! The promise of a bright future destroyed! Was a moment of blinded rage worth so much destruction?
