Because i am a Girl?

Because i am a Girl?

Heard that slogan, “Save the girl child”? Doesn’t it sound strange to you when you read this slogan on televisions or hoardings? I mean why ‘save’ the girl child? Isn’t she meant to live, survive and develop prosperously? ‘SAVE’- a word of four letters but means a lot and actually explains a lot about the discrimination, bigotry and prejudice that the regressive mindsets of the society that we live in carries. Why don’t we use this word for a boy child? ‘Save the boy child’– ever heard of it or read it somewhere? No. Infact, why would you, especially, when you live in such a tyrannizing society that has and still gives importance to the boy child and prioritizes them.

We are a part of a nation that is developing every second to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the developed countries. This country wants a neighboring position with some of the most powerful countries of this world like USA, UK, France, China, but mind it, it just wants a ‘stature’ to be called one of the most powerful nations, without compromising on its retrograde and astern thinking. What’s the point of having a neighboring position with USA or UK if you still believe that girls are unimportant, unwanted and undesirable? Rather, be where you are, amongst the developing countries, because atleast being there would suit you more and your regressive thinking and moreover, your ‘pretentious’ image would not even get stained by the detestation, abandonment and lamentable thinking that the citizens of this nation carry. Infact the most hurtful thought of today’s generation is that “Girls bring a burden of responsibilities and worries. Worries for their security, for their future, for their upbringing and moreover, for their protection from the cruel world outside adds to the pain”. What a thought! Applause for those from whom I have heard it all and who call themselves the oh-so-cool youth of this nation. I mean seriously do you agree to this fact in this high-tech, advanced and modernized era that girls act as a burden to you? If your answer is yes, then who said you people are grown-ups? You are not and neither is your mentality. Wake up guys! ‘SAVE’ is the word that has been initiated in this era for girls, I mean literally ‘SAVE’. International Sand Artist, Ranjan Kumar Ganguly made a sand sculpture at 45th National Conference of Indian Academy of Pediatrics (Pedicon-2008) at Bhubanaswar which says “Save the Girl Child”.

If the government has acted and initiated THE NATIONAL PLAN OF ACTION FOR GIRL CHILD, it is not because our filthy politicians wanted to tap their backs and take the credit, it is because it’s the need of the hour for our nation. You forced those men in white khadi’s to include a law for protection, development and survival of the girl child. And when I say ‘you’, I mean all those men and women out there who encouraged female foeticides and fetal homicides. Keep your reasons and excuses aside and Stop SAVING the girl child, Start BIRTHING her! Let her LIVE!
