21st century—The Century Of Change

21st century—The Century Of Change

A more open society, more open ideas, more of feminist thoughts, more crimes against women! The other day my roommate was having a heated conversation with my mother about my shifting from the hostel. I wanted to stay in a flat and wanted to get rid of the hostel bounding and her mother on the other side was very much adamant about me staying in the hostel. There was no issue of money but her main concern was safety. She said I trust you and know that you will never do anything which will make us put our heads down but I don’t trust the people around. Now, I have a question—’Even after the stringent laws coming, why are the crimes not declining’? After the NIRBHAYA’S case, the fast track courts were set up but how many of the girls have got justice in that. If the courts would have been so fast–tracked, then today the situation may have been different. According to the National Crime Records Bureau in the year 2013, more that 30,000 cases were recorded and the same year, fast track courts were introduced and the same is the case with acid attack. The government has stopped the free sale of acids in the country but has the attack stopped. NO. Why so? Even after that a major case was reported, one of which was in the capital and it was done by a doctor who got acid thrown on her colleague when she didn’t reciprocated to his feelings. Is this what the law is for? When a mishap takes place in the country, the people come out on the roads with a propaganda and the opposition takes it as a situation to take a political advantage. And the government’s spokesperson are taking part in debates in various news channel ad giving clarification about how the party is not involved and what all will it do. And then it all comes to an end with people busy in their normal life, parties fighting about their superiority. Many a times you must have also heard in the news people saying it must have been definitely the mistake of the girl. She must be wearing short clothes. So, let me give the answer to such people. Why do rape cases are reported in small villages? The people there have not grown so much. The girls still wear salwar-kameez and not even jeans. So, there should no rape or harassment cases happening there. The highest number of rape cases were reported in Madhya Pradesh, in the year 2013, which is also rated as the least developed state in India. IRONY! The people running the government of the country need to understand it’s not just about being in power, it’s about the people. Just by giving women major roles in the cabinet is not the only thing you need to do, this in anyway does not show your feminist behavior. Women in the 21ST century have given a new turn to the society. It’s not the same old situation when men were the bread earner and women were limited to the four walls of the house. They don’t need anyone favors. When a new born boy or girl cries, he cries for his mother. It’the mothers’ lap which makes him/her feel secure. The same mother who was a girl at some point of her life, how would you feel if you get to know that she was sexually abused when she was in her adolescence. It’s time that you do something before the female species extinct!
