Living Your Dreams

Living Your Dreams

One of the most repeated question is, “what do you want to become when you grow up?” At a tender age, most of us either do not know the exact answer to this question or have weird fantasies about our future. And when it comes to girls, we are not offered too many choices though we have millions of dreams racing inside our heart. It is a stereotype that girls are ultimately supposed to perform different household chores and have to take care of their families so there is no need for them to be more educated and to have any goals. But in the recent past our society has witnessed several examples of ambitious women achieving great heights in different fields which is an inspiration for other women to study and excel in life.

To help the girl child fulfill their ambitions and dreams, primary education has been made free for all girl children of our nation by various schemes introduced by our government. And moreover, by the time their secondary education is completed, most of the students get a clear point of view of which field they are actually interested in and what career they would like to pursue once they complete their education. In the so called “good olden days” there were not many career options available for the girls. But in the 21st century, there are innumerable career options available for women-be it in the field of science, commerce or arts, many choices are available for girls to select their prospective careers. No longer only have our male counterparts had the opportunity to choose their career as women have ventured into every field.

When various career options are available then why should women take up only stereotyped jobs? It is believed that women are less physically capable than men. In our Indian air force, women are not usually recruited as fighter pilots. Instead they are mostly assigned the post of cargo pilots. Also there are very few female astronauts and astronomers as it is believed that women cannot bear so much intense mental and physical pressure. On the other hand, on the academics front, it is mostly the girls who do better than boys. Be it SSC, IAS, UPSC or any other undergraduate and postgraduate courses, girls usually outshine boys. The rules of the society have been made in such a way that women are always dominated by men and the society continues to be a patriarchal one. So it is the need of the hour that women break all these rules and proves that they are not less than their male counter parts and start venturing into other fields as well which are considered suitable only for men.

Till date, the world’s largest democracy has had only one female Prime Minister and only one female President. It is only because women are not given proper motivation, education and guidance to achieve their dreams. All of us have some dreams about our future.

And as Paolo Coelho has rightly said,

“If you truly desire for something, the entire universe conspires it into your favor” So, all that is needed is the right motivation and support for all the women in our society. To all the girls and women-work hard towards your dream and aspire to reach for the moon. Even if you miss, you will land somewhere among the stars. As a true woman fulfill your aspirations and with you the aspirations all those connected with you will also be fulfilled.
