STRAIGHT ISN’T ALWAYS NORMAL

Homosexuality is a very controversial term in our country at present. If you were to discuss this topic with your family especially with your parents? Would you be able to discuss it freely? Would you be able to say what you want to say?
The recent judgment passed by the Supreme Court regarding gay sex as unnatural and banning gay sex only worsens the problem. Being a homosexual is not a crime!! Homosexuals should be given the same rights as straight or as many will say, “Normal” individuals. The problem lies in the perception for homosexuals in our society and their portrayal in Bollywood Movies. Gay individuals are essentially seen wearing bright, girly colors with a limp in one hand and talking in a very indifferent way. Gays are not like that. They are just like you and me. We, as individuals should stop judging people based on their sexual preferences. Homosexuality is not a disease! So, we should stop treating it as one! Being a gay or a lesbian is a choice! They are the same people like us.
Our society refuses to accept anything different! They force gays to marry straight women and produce children even though they do not wish to do that and then these people end up hitting gay bars in the remote locations of the city and end up cheating on their partners and sometimes, also transmitting STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases). Straight is not always normal if being a homosexual is not a normal thing. And in my opinion, whatever rights are enjoyed by straight people should be extended to encompass the gays, transgender, Bisexual and lesbian population as well. The efforts of LGBT should well be acknowledged in this context. Section 377 prohibits gay sex and tags it as “Unnatural and Illegal”. How can something that is so harmless and is about an individual’s choice can be unnatural? All these major political parties supporting the Supreme Court judgment only worsen the present situation. As a society, we need to take a stand against banning gay sex and we all should come together to fight for the rights of our brothers, sisters and friends who have a different sexual preference. We live in a democratic country and we have the right to choose whom we are going to marry or have children with! We should work towards their “Inclusion” in our society normally. Honestly, how many of you would say yes if I ask you that if your child is a gay or a lesbian, you are going to allow them to choose their partners and marry off a same sex person?
