New device eases monthly pain of women

AHMEDABAD: A young innovator and entrepreneur, Kranthi Vistakula, has developed a device to ease the pain and discomfort that women experience during their menstrual cycle. Vistakula, 33, has scientifically combined actions of heat and pulse therapies into a device that can generate quick period pain relief. Vistakula, based in Hyderabad, is the inventor of ClimaCon, a patented breakthrough technology that can provide heating and cooling on demand and thus extends thermal comfort to the body. This project was incubated at the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, in 2008. He made use of this technology in making clothes and accessories that could help regulate temperature irrespective of the kind of weather. “In the process of exploring areas where heating and cooling therapy could prove effective, I realised that menstrual pain is a common discomfort among women, starting from teenage girls,” Vistakula said. He then decided to come up with a product that could wipe away the four painful days each month from a woman’s calendar. The device named, Eve, is based on the therapy system recommended by doctors for the days of menstruation. It is made of skin-friendly material, can be worn conveniently or carried in a bag when not in use. The heat element of the device works by easing the painful cramps in the uterus while the pulse effect produces a gentle massage-like pulsating sensation that gives comfort to the body. Vistakula said that the device is calibrated and clinically-verified for suitable temperatures and frequencies. It can be applied on several pain areas like the lower abdomen and the lower back, depending on the location of the pain. Once charged, the device can work for four to six hours. “We conducted first-hand user trials on over 100 women suffering from menstrual pain and we had positive results for the device,” he said. He plans to develop more innovations in the healthcare sector to reach out to more people and more problems. “The purpose of invention is to bring it to the common man, and that is the purpose of my innovations,” he said.   ———- SOURCE: TIMES OF INDIA
