Eve Teasing of a different kind; Times Of India gets a slap on its face – Kudos to Deepika!
Journalism can never be silent, that is its greatest virtue and its greatest fault. It seems as if TOI is walking on the same path because it has actually crossed all the heights and has bogged down so low that even after such a misogynistic attitude TOI isn’t pricked by self condemnation. I choose not to name it as a controversy for it is more about the mindsets with which the society is living. The series of incidents and the much blazed out headlines by TOI that clearly read “OMG, Deepika Padukone’s Clevage show” actually shows the lumbering way of our media. I am afraid to say this but TOI was actually insecure about the fact that what if one day it falls short of headlines, the fear gripped it so hard that it actually started creating headlines from breasts and cleavage. Our society can see an impeccable instance of misogyny and male chauvinism from this incident. I am forced to doubt the sagacity and prudence of one of the leading media house as I really feel that it needs a good mind to feast upon because if it had one then it won’t have been wasted on making such derogatory remarks of the highest order. Can you see how much way-ward attitude has been shown by this media house? Posting breasts and cleavages as headlines in an utterly dehumanizing way was just not enough as an immediate apology was sent that read, ‘It’s a compliment! You look so great that we want to make sure everyone knew! You know what TOI has been playing the blame- shame-game as even after blaming Deepika for having done all this just to become a cynosure in the wake of her recent movie release it stands as a shameless creature.
It just occurred to me that why can’t the media go around wagging to click a picture of the penis of a male celebrity? They can do so right? We claim to be a coherent society where both men and women are given due reverence then why can’t the media houses go and take pictures of penis? Then it should be posted rather more highlighted and peppered up with a caption- ‘OMG!! Penis’. Now don’t blame me for passing such a misandry comment but sadly TOI has induced me to do so. TOI, you know what I feel like doing? Don’t worry I can never be as low as you are but with my little fingers I feel raising the middle one. Sorry, accept my apologies.
