Women who love their Bikes
It is jaw dropping sight when you see some mean looking heavy machines being maneuvered with ease by women who weigh even less than half the weight of the bikes. There is a new passion on the rise among women who love to flaunt their love for heavy duty bikes. Not only do they love these machines, they love the reactions they get from people around as they drive by. Here are three such women and their adventures.
Labdhi Patel is a company secretary by profession and riding is her passion! One of the active lady Harley riders in the country, Labdhi has ridden to Mumbai, Goa and other places from Navsari where she is based with her husband. “I fell in love with bikes when I was 12 year old and my father used to take me for drives on his bike. As I grew older I knew I wanted to drive a bike and when my husband who loves bikes too decided to buy a Harley-Davidson Superlow 883, I was overjoyed.” The mean machine isn’t daunting at all for Labdhi. “It is all in the mind. The power of this machine and the way it rides is just awesome. For my husband Mehul and me, it is a dream come true to be able to go for these long drives on our bike. And to top it all I love the attention it draws from people as I zip by. My girls come up to me and ask me how I manage such a heavy bike, but that is the fun of it.”
Avani Patel is another avid biker. Her love for heavy duty bikes started a year back when her husband bought a Harley-Davidson Roadking. “I had never driven a two wheeler in my life and was terrified by this huge bike but my husband was insistent and seeing his enthusiasm I learnt how to ride it. I soon learnt how to ride it and now it is huge adrenaline rush. We ride often and have traveled up to Mt Abu on this. The thrill of driving such an incredible machine is incomparable to anything and the reactions are equally fun. I can see people staring wide eyed when they spot me with boots, jeans, gloves and helmet riding the bike.”
Anokhi Parikh and her husband Darshan are active members in local heavy duty bike club. Going on long drives has become a norm for them. “The feel of driving these mean machines for long drives is amazing. I got introduced to bikes, thanks to my husband who is just crazy about them. Initially I used to ride pillion with him but slowly I started driving them on my own and now there is no looking back. I can handle the bike very well and have learnt the basics too about it, just incase the bike breaks down. I love the special gears also like hand gloves and jacket but with the weather being so humid here I can’t think of wearing a jacket. But I do wear hand gloves often and the helmet is a must of course. I must admit that riding these bikes isn’t a child’s play. They are heavy and require a lot of skill. Many times I have had sore arms but then the smoothness of the ride, the power of the machine and the sound of it is mind blowing. One simply needs to ride one to fall in love with them. Now my next target is to go for a long distance ride maybe to Goa or Leh-Ladakh.” ——— SOURCE- FEMINA
