Man tonsures wife, slashes private parts

BHUBANESWAR: A man was arrested on Sunday for tonsuring his wife, slashing her private parts with a blade and stabbing her with a tube light in Bhubaneswar suspecting her of infidelity. Ranjan Panda was arrested following a complaint lodged by his injured wife Jasoda. Recounting the events on September 23, Jasodasaid, “In a fit of drunken rage, Ranjan beat me up, tonsured my head, slashed my private parts with a blade and stabbed my stomach with a tube light. As I was bleeding and crying in excruciating pain, he forcibly stitched my wounds. He did all this because he suspected me of infidelity. His mother and brother took me to a private clinic.” Jasoda mentioned in her FIR that as her injuries were gradually healing, Ranjan forced her to have sex with him on September 27. Writhing in unbearable pain, Jasoda called her brother Mohan Mishra who rushed her to a private hospital. She further alleged that the police added to her woes when she reached the police station on Saturday. “They police officers refused to accept my FIR and misbehaved with me. With much difficulty, I made them acknowledge my complaint. They then referred the FIR to Mahila police station,” she added. “Based on her complaint, we have arrested her husband. In late 2006, we had sorted out their marital discord. Ranjan had then promised to keep her happy,” ACP (Zone-I) P K Pattnaik said. Jasoda and Rajan got married in September, 2005.
