‘Don’t fight us, we won’t rape you like they did in Delhi’

real-men-dont-rape Just how horribly things can go wrong in Gurgaon, the Millennium City, came to light recently when a group of young women were caught in the middle of warring auto-rickshaw gangs and were threatened with rape. Gurgaon is a battleground for auto gangs who, with mutual understanding, have marked their territories and don’t take kindly to any transgression. “We will not rape you like they did in the Delhi gang-rape case, but if you consent, we’ll let you off,” a group of hoodlums told two young women after beating up their auto driver for “entering their territory”.   Though no police complaint has been lodged, a man, who was an eyewitness to the incident and was beaten up by the men, relived the horror on a blogging site. Police officials refused comment, saying the matter was not reported. On September 15, a group of young job-seekers, called for an interview by a software company in Manesar, 20 km from here, hailed autos for to-and-fro journey from the MG Road Metro station. The interview was, however, cancelled. On way back, the auto that the man was travelling in was stopped by some 15 men who jumped out of a Toyota Qualis as they were turning in towards the MG Road. The men also stopped another auto in which three friends, two of them women, were travelling. Carrying knives and rods, the men assaulted his driver and when the victim tried to help him, he was threatened. He then rushed to the women’s rescue. Their driver was lying injured and the men were threatening the young women with rape. The group damaged the autos for entering their “territory”. The four somehow managed to flee and he dropped the women home, the man said in his blog. A call was made to the Gurgaon Police control room but no action had been taken till Thursday evening. During the day, one of the readers posted the blog on the Facebook page of the Gurgaon Police but the victim withdrew it after mediapersons started inquiring about the incident.   ——— SOURCE: Hindustan Times
